How to Clean a Tie

Neckties can be very expensive and should be treated as an investment.

Some people will tell you that certain neckties can be thrown in the washer and dryer. Do NOT! Ties have special stitching and extremely delicate fabric.

Always read and follow care tags. Below is a guide to care for neckties.
SILK – Cultivated in China and India, one of the most luxurious, but hard to clean materials. Silk is a natural protein fiber produced by insects. Dry Clean ONLY. Hand press to maintain rounded edges. Hang to dry. Do not twist or wring. Steam if needed. Do not bleach.
WOOL – Highly insulating and soft, natural material. Dry Clean ONLY, when absolutely necessary. Hang to dry. Do not iron, steam if needed. Do not use hot water or bleach. Do not store in sunlight or plastic.
LINEN – Extremely light and breathable fiber made from the flax plant. Easy to wrinkle, hang when not being used. Hand wash in cold/warm water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, hang to dry. Use irons steam setting. Do not bleach.
COTTON – Derived from the cotton plant, very durable. Easy to wrinkle, hang when not being used will shrink if heated. Hand wash cold/warm water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, hang to dry. Use irons steam setting. Do not bleach.
SEERSUCKER – A lightweight fabric from India. Hand wash in cold water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, hang to dry. Iron or steam on low. Do not bleach.
KNIT – Crafted with 100% durable microfibers. Hand wash in cold water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, reshape and lay flat to dry. Steam if necessary. Do not bleach.
MICROFIBER – A very soft, synthetic fiber that’s very elastic. Hand wash in warm water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, hang to dry. Iron or steam on low. Do not bleach.
POLYESTER – A durable, synthetic material that’s water resistant, quick drying, wrinkle resistant and won’t shrink. Hand wash in cold/warm water. Press out excess water, do not twist or wring, hang to dry. Iron or steam on low-med setting. Do not bleach.
FAUX LEATHER – Similar texture to real leather, but cheaper, more durable and versatile. Wipe clean only. Do not dry clean or submerge in water. Hang to dry. Do not steam or iron. Do not bleach.
